About
Austrian-born documentary photographer telling human stories across conflict, culture and transition.
Stories from a changing world.
Laurin Strele is an Austrian-born photographer and photojournalist whose work explores the human experience in its most immediate and unguarded form.
In recent years, he has documented some of the world’s most pressing crises. His work from Ukraine follows the resilience of soldiers and civilians amid devastation. In Lebanon, he chronicled the consequences of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, tracing both destruction and perseverance in Beirut and beyond.
His assignments and long-term projects have taken him through Afghanistan, Iraq, India, Syria and many other countries. Across each story, he looks beyond the event itself to the lives, relationships and quiet moments that reveal its human weight.
Laurin’s photography has received international recognition and has appeared in publications including GEO, Newsweek and Der Spiegel.
The person before the event.
Laurin works between documentary photography, editorial assignments and long-term visual storytelling. His practice is built around proximity, patience and respect for the people whose lives become part of a story.
Rather than reducing complex places to a single moment, he searches for images that hold tension and tenderness at once — photographs that inform, but also remain open enough to be felt.
From fieldwork to public conversation.
Through artist talks, lectures and portfolio discussions, Laurin shares how long-term documentary stories are researched, photographed and edited — from questions of access and ethics to sequencing and publication.
He speaks to photography communities, cultural institutions and professional audiences about working responsibly in complex environments.
