The programme.
An outline of the photographic work, not a fixed daily itinerary. The sequence may change with local conditions and access.
Baghdad: context and observation
The planned fieldwork in Baghdad includes markets, historic mosques and Al-Mutanabbi Street. Use these settings to develop a documentary approach grounded in context, with sustained observation and focused field assignments rather than a rapid succession of isolated pictures.
Babylon, Najaf and Karbala
The route connects the ancient city of Babylon with the religious and cultural life of Najaf and Karbala. Work on how places, people and history meet in the present, with attention to responsible representation and the access available at the time.
Mosul and surrounding areas
The planned documentary work in Mosul and surrounding areas focuses on memory, reconstruction and contemporary Iraq. Use the field assignments to develop a coherent visual question and examine how individual scenes contribute to the larger story.
Daily editing and direct guidance
Daily field assignments are supported by editing and sequencing sessions, group reviews and individual guidance. Review what the photographs actually communicate, identify gaps and refine the work throughout the seven-day programme rather than leaving the edit until the end.
