Image of a Nation received a bronze medal in the photojournalism category at the reFocus Awards.
The photograph records a critical moment during the war in Ukraine. A soldier wounded in the shoulder looks into the camera as a medic removes the bullet with scissors. Yellow iodine and the blue stretcher echo the colours of the Ukrainian flag, holding resilience and vulnerability within the same frame.
The image is part of my continuing effort to document the human cost of war with clarity and restraint, keeping attention on the people living through it.
