My Work in GEO Magazine – Mosul, Iraq

I am honored to share that my latest work from Mosul, Iraq has been published in the September 2025 issue of GEO Magazine.

The feature highlights the story of the Al-Tahira Cathedral, a landmark that was burned down during the ISIS invasion in 2014. Once a vibrant place of worship for Mosul’s Christian community, it has since been carefully restored. Yet today, even as the bells ring again, their sound reaches only a handful of believers.

Through this story, I wanted to explore the fragility of cultural heritage in the aftermath of war, as well as the resilience of the people who continue to rebuild their lives among ruins and memories. For me, this assignment was not only about documenting destruction and restoration, but also about asking what remains when a community has been scattered, and how places of faith carry memory even in absence.

A big thank you to the editors of GEO for giving this story a platform and for continuing to support in-depth documentary photography that sheds light on overlooked realities .

You can find the feature in the September 2025 issue of GEO (GEO 09/2025), now available in print and digital editions.
