I’m honored to share that my photograph, The Flying Monk, has been awarded 3rd Prize in The Independent Photographer’s competition, judged by the legendary Michael Yamashita.
The jury described the image as:
“A beautifully composed image. The angle draws the eye from left to right, from the first monk stretching, to the second seemingly walking above his younger colleagues, and the third, almost hidden at the end of the frame. Rich in texture and tone, from the wall, its red paint worn by countless feet, to the patterned stone roof and green trees beyond, and the striking yellow of the monks’ robes, creating a wonderful painterly effect. A beautiful moment of life, perfectly immortalized by the photographer.” – The Independent Photographer Editors
This recognition means a lot to me — not just for the award itself, but for the fact that the image captures a fleeting, intimate moment at the Shaolin Monastery in China. A reminder that even in highly disciplined spaces, life still reveals its beauty in unexpected gestures and movements.
I’m grateful to the jury, to Michael Yamashita, and to The Independent Photographer for this honor, and I look forward to sharing more stories and images in the months ahead.
