This archived workshop programme took place from 18 to 28 July 2024 across Kabul, Mazar al Sharif, Herat and Bamyan.
The workshop combined street, portrait, documentary and landscape photography with visits to historic sites, markets and local communities. Participants travelled with multilingual guides and photographers in a group of five to ten, with local support and cultural-sensitivity guidance throughout the journey.

- Mazar al Sharif: the Blue Mosque, surrounding streets and markets
- Herat: historic shrines, Buzkashi matches and local wrestling
- Bamyan: the Buddha statues, mountain landscapes and village life

Suggested equipment
DSLR camera, a 15–35 mm lens for landscapes, a 50 mm lens for portraits and a sturdy tripod.
Clothing and essentials
Long trousers, long-sleeved shirts and, for women, a scarf to cover the hair. Traditional Afghan clothing was recommended in order to blend in. Participants were also advised to bring comfortable walking shoes, personal toiletries and a basic first-aid kit with personal medication.
Visa and insurance
The programme stated that visas could be obtained from the Afghanistan Consulate in Dubai. Travel insurance covering all risks was mandatory.
